Legacy Picture Sites

flickr

The last time ‘flickr’ was used is over 10 years ago. So no judging. flicker was a fling. I could host my own URL with DNS providers or use iWeb all for free. So i was not big on utilizing flickr for my picture serving.

1000 pics free then its pay.

Limited free photo backup.

Prime Photo’s

The last free frontier. A perfect location to save ur valued pictures. And since u already need ur prime account for Movies and 2 day deliveries its already free.

Legacy Web Sites

Northern Mac

The BIG entire year long project for Computer Science Class,

From what i can recollect it was suppose to be a GeoCities or Anglefire page(In today terms Wix). You changed up a bit then saved to a floppy. Something super silly easy.

So.. I skipped school ‘again’ and stayed home for 3 days and lived off microwaved cans of Campbells ‘Chunky’.

I built the entire site from scratch using Clairs Home Page designer and some other programs to make the buttons and stuff.

The site was done but, it was not good enough, saving to a floppy was cheap, so I repurposed one of my many Macs to ‘Host” the site. I used additional programs to host a www site, and additionally signed up for free DNS services to direct my page to my home computer. Northernmac.net or something, cant remember the ending.

It took some time but in 3 days it was complete and anyone could type in my ‘northernmac.net’ url and get redirected to my Macintosh 8100 computer running as a web server.

You would have to understand 1998-2000 to understand this was an epic accomplishment in the day. I think it was still dial up modem at 56k speeds on a second dedicated phone number.

All excited i returned to school and told my teacher I was done. He asked for my floppy of which i had none. I politely had to respond 3 times to just enter my URL and my site would come up.

He finally relented in a sigh, pulled his keyboard closer and typed in my URL

.…Aaaaaaand i was kicked out of class…. ‘again’

(accused of hiring someone to build my site)

Before I had kids era.

Creation date of ? 1998-2000 Cant remember.

iWeb

iWeb page was a Apple bundled application, that was released in 2006 and ran till 2011. It was easy to construct and share pages with mom and dad.  Those years were ‘interesting’ so iWeb was not utilized to its potential. Pics here reflect the years iWeb was active.

Not all the links work. Some will be repaired some will just be broken or incomplete
